MADRID, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Midfielder Brahim Diaz has suffered another muscle injury and could threaten his short-term future, the Real Madrid website has confirmed on Tuesday.

Diaz, who arrived from Manchester City in January, missed most of the pre-season through injury and had just returned to full fitness.

However, Monday's training session saw him forced to pull up with a muscle injury in his right thigh, with the club reporting that his recovery "depends on the evolution" of the injury.

The injury leaves Diaz's future in doubt as he failed to make the squad for Saturday's 3-1 win away to Celta Vigo, with Gareth Bale, who started and played well, and James Rodriguez, who was an unused substitute chosen ahead of him.

Diaz may not be able to convince coach Zinedine Zidane of his value before the transfer window closes in Spain on September 2, and that he may be sent on loan.
