NAIROBI, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Coach Francis Kimanzi returns back to take the helm of Kenya's national soccer team on a two-year contract on Tuesday after his previous two spells in 2008 and 2011.

The 43-year-old was officially unveiled here to replace Sebastian Migne, who resigned after failing to take Kenya beyond the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt in July.

"His brief is to lead the team through the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification, 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) regional Senior Challenge Cup games," Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa said.

Kimanzi will be assisted by Zedekiah Otieno with Lawrence Webo serving as the goalkeeper trainer, Enos Karani in charge of fitness.

"We laid a good foundation with our former coach Migne, qualifying for Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 15 years," Kimanzi said.

"This is a continuation of the good job we did and we are looking forward to accomplishing our biggest challenge of getting the team back to Africa Cup of Nations 2021," Kimanzi said.

Before that, Kimanzi's first assignment is to guide Harambee Stars in three friendlies, against Uganda and Libya in September and away to Libya in October, prior to their 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Egypt, Togo and Comoros in November. Enditem
