KUWAIT CITY, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait has expressed its support for preserving the unity and sovereignty of Yemen over the latest developments in Yemen's southern port city of Aden, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported Wednesday.

Kuwait is looking forward to the efforts exerted by Saudi Arabia in hosting talks in Jeddah between the Yemeni government and representatives of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), KUNA quoted Kuwaiti Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mansour Al-Otaibi as saying.

Kuwait hopes that the final outcome of the talks would lead to the return of security and stability in a way that preserves Yemen's unity and sovereignty over its territory, Al-Otaibi said on Tuesday at a Security Council meeting on the situation in Yemen.

The Aden-based STC previously said its forces rapidly advanced on the ground and declared full control over the neighboring province of Abyan.

The STC was a part of the Saudi-led Arab coalition to fight Iran-backed Houthi militias in northern Yemen in a war that has rekindled old strains between north and south Yemen which were separate countries until 1990.
