Number of foreign residents in Albania grows 9.7 pct in 2018

TIRANA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The number of foreign residents in Albania in 2018 was 14,162, registering an increase of 9.7 percent year-on-year, National Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) reported on Thursday.

According to INSTAT, in 2018, the number of foreign residents based on the gender was 9,203 men and 4,959 women, increasing respectively by 9.9 and of 9.6 percent year-on-year.

During the year, the foreign residents originating from Europe were 8,212, accounting for 58 percent of the total number compared to 59.2 percent in the previous year.

Meanwhile, the number of foreigners with a residence permit in Albania with Asian origin was 4,022, increasing by 11.2 percent year-on-year, whereas those originating from the Americas, Africa and Oceania were 1,928, increasing by 16.8 percent.

According to INSTAT, during the period, the main purposes of the issued residence permits in Albania were employment and family reunion, which together account for 72.4 percent of the total. Enditem
