DOHA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Qatar on Thursday congratulated Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan over the formation of a sovereign council in Sudan and his swearing-in as chairman, according to the official Qatar News Agency (QNA).
Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also congratulated Abdullah Hamdok who took the constitutional oath of office as prime minister.
In his congratulatory cable, the emir of Qatar expressed all good wishes of success for the council and stability and progress for the people of Sudan.
Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani also sent a congratulatory cable to his Sudanese counterpart Hamdok and had a phone call with him.
Hamdok worked as director of regional integration and trade for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in 2001 and 2002, and UNECA deputy executive secretary from 2011 to October 2018.
In September 2018, Hamdok was named as the minister of finance by the ousted president Omar al-Bashir, but he refused the position.
