ULAN BATOR, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- A total of 69 people have died in 76 water-related accidents in Mongolia since the beginning of this year, the country's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said Friday.

"A total of 76 water-related accidents have been recorded across the country so far this year, killing 60 adults and nine children," the NEMA said in a statement, noting that citizens' careless and influence of alcohol were the main causes of the accidents.

As of Friday, the water levels in Mongolia's major rivers, including the Kharaa, Kharkhiraa, Khovd, Kherlen, Kharig and Tuul, have exceeded the warning levels by 5-60 centimeters due to heavy downpours, the NEMA said, urging people to stay away from flooded rivers and avoid swimming alone or staying near rivers after drinking alcohol.
