Britain, Germany, Hungary leading Canoe Sprint World Championships in Hungary

BUDAPEST, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Britain, Germany, and Hungary led the Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships in Hungary on the third day of the five-day event, according to official results on Friday.

The competition has been blessed with beautiful sunny weather, and Saturday will see as much as 14 finals.

So far, Britain is on the top of the medal table, followed by Germany and Hungary. China is at 10th.

The KL1 Men 200m Final A was the earliest of the day. Hungarian Peter Pal Kiss won the gold in 45.42 seconds, followed by Esteban Farias from Italy in 46.17, and Brazilian Luis Carlos Cardoso da Silva with 46.49 seconds.

"The backwind did not make the start easier, I could not pull the paddle as I wanted, but I knew that if I didn't roll over then there would be no trouble, I could spin things up," Kiss said after his win.

The next final was the KL2 Women 200m Final A, which had been quite satisfactory for Britain, who made a one-two finish thanks to the efforts of Charlotte Henshaw (47.62 seconds) and Emma Wiggs (49.03 seconds). Australian Susan Seipel came third in 51.12 seconds. Chinese Wang Danqin also made it to the final, and finished 9th with 55.46 seconds.

The last final of the morning was the KL3 Women 200m Final A, where Shakhnoza Mirzaeva from Uzbekistan won in 47.29, followed by British Laura Sugar with 47.32, and Shahla Behrouzirad from Iran in 48.96 seconds. China's Cai Yuqingyan came in 9th with 51.78 seconds.

The first final of the afternoon session was the K2 Women 200m Final A. The Bulgarian duo of Maryna Litvinchuk/Volha Khudzenka won the race with only 36.21 seconds, beating Spela Ponomarenko Janic/Anja Osterman from Slovenia with 36.72 seconds. The third place went to Hungarians Blanka Kiss/Anna Lucz in 36.79 seconds.

The next race was the C2 Men 200m Final A, which saw the victory of Spaniard duo Alberto Pedrero/Pablo Grana with 36.06 seconds, tailed extremely closely by Polish rowers Michal Marek Lubniewski/Arsen Sliwinski (36.18 seconds). The pair from Uzbekistan Artur Guliev/Elyorjon Mamadaliev came finished third in 36.42.

In the C1 Women 500m Final A, Alena Nazdrova from Bulgaria earned the gold with 2:00.73, with the silver going to Russian athlete Kseniia Kurach (2:01.64) and Anastasiia Chetverikova from Ukraine getting the bronze with 2:03.83. China's Ma Yanan finished fourth with 2:07.68.

In the K1 Men 500m Final A, the top three places were secured by Tom Liebscher from Germany (1:35.04), Mikita Borykau from Bulgaria (1:35.19) and by Maxim Spesivtsev from Russia (1:35.49).

The C2 Men 500m Final A was a clear start-to-end victory for Chinese duo Li Qiang/Xing Song with 1:37.33, beating host pair Hungarian Jonatan Hajdu/Adam Fekete (1:38.41). Alfonso Benavides/Antoni Segura from Spain earned the bronze with a time of 1:38.97.

In the last women final of the day, K2 Women 1,000m Final A, Hungarians triumphed thanks to Erika Medveczky/Reka Hagymasi (3:34.23). They overcame German Tabea Medert/Sarah Bruessler (3:35.59), and the bronze went to Mexican athletes Karina Alanis/Maricela Montemayor (3:40.91).

The last final of Friday was the K4 Men 1000m Final A. German athletes Lukas Reuschenbach/Felix Frank/Jakob Thordsen/Tobias-Pascal Schultz won the race with 2:48.79, followed by Russia (2:49.78) and Slovakia (2:50.44).
