CANBERRA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison will push for the negotiations on a post-Brexit free trade deal when he meets British Prime Minister Boris Johnson for the first time.

Morrison will on Saturday night arrive in France where he will become the first Australian prime minister in history to attend a meeting of the Group of Seven (G7).

Speaking to News Corp Australia before the meeting, Morrison said it was a historic moment for Australia to be recognized as a world power.

"We are the biggest aid provider and defence partner in the southwest Pacific," he said.

"It is a very complex region ... There are a lot of pressures ... There are insights we have that I'm looking to share."

It will be Morrison's first meeting with Johnson, his British counterpart, since they both rose to the roles.

The pair will continue negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) as Australia seeks to be the first country to strike a post-Brexit deal.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Britain is Australia's eighth largest trading partner.

Two-way trade between the countries was worth 26.9 billion Australian dollars (18.1 billion U.S. dollars) in 2018 while Britain invested 574.8 billion AUD (388.1 billion U.S. dollars) in Australia in the same year, making it the country's second biggest source of foreign investment.
