RIYADH, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Saudi-led coalition involved in a war in Yemen announced on Saturday the interception of drones launched by Houthi militias towards the kingdom's southern border.

The coalition spokesperson Turki Al Maliki said in a statement on the Saudi Press Agency that the destroyed drones were targeting civilian sites in Khamis Mushayt and Jazan.

He said that all attempts by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias to launch drones are foiled and the coalition takes all operational procedures and best practices of rules of engagement to deal with these drones to protect civilians.

The spokesperson added that repeated attempts confirm the "criminality" of Iran's proxies in the region.

He asserted that the coalition will implement deterrent measures against Houthis to neutralize and destroy their capabilities in accordance with international humanitarian law and its customary rules.
