SANAA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels said they launched a pre-dawn drone attack on King Khalid Air Base in the southwest of Saudi Arabia, the group's al-Masirah TV reported early on Monday.

However, the Saudi-led coalition foiled the attack. "The Arab Coalition intercepted and destroyed two drones launched by the Houthi militia from Yemen's city of Sanaa toward Saudi Arabia," the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television said on Twitter early on Monday.

Houthis have recently stepped up missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, but most of the attacks were intercepted by the kingdom's air defences.

Saudi Arabia has been leading an Arab military coalition against Iran-allied Houthis in Yemen for more than five years in support of the exiled internationally-recognized government of Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
