RAMALLAH, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army arrested eight Palestinians from the West Bank on Tuesday, Israeli army said in a statement.

Israeli special forces in civilian clothes took Daoud Zubeidi, a released Palestinian prisoner, from the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank to an unknown location, Palestinian security sources said.

Avichay Adraee, Israeli army spokesman, said in a statement that the Israeli forces had arrested eight Palestinians in the West Bank who were "suspected of being involved in violent riots."

Qadura Faris, head of the Palestinian Prisoners Club, a quasi governmental body providing legal aid for prisoners, told Xinhua that "the Israeli arrests continue and they are a part of the Israeli aggressive policy on the Palestinian side, whether they are for reasons or not."

The army also confiscated a lathe which is used to produce illegal weapons in village of Beit Liqya in the West Bank city of Ramallah, the spokesman said.

He pointed out that the army found on Monday evening an explosive device planted near the bypass road of Nablus, which was then defused by experts.

Israeli forces often carry out overnight raids in Palestinian Authority-controlled areas in the West Bank to arrest suspected Palestinians who are accused by Israel of carrying out activities and operations against it.
