WINDHOEK, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Namibia is slated to host the African Youth Chess Championships in December, the Namibia Chess Federation (NCF) said Thursday.

According to NCF Vice President Efraim Jane, the tournament is expected to attract over 500 players from all over the continent.

"We have invited all International Chess Federation members from across Africa to bring all their chess players young and old to compete," he said.

He added that the tournament was an opportunity for young Namibian chess players because Namibia is hosting the tournament for the first time.

He said that preparations for the tournament were at an advanced stage.

Namibia was awarded the rights to host the tournament in December last year.

The tournament will take place in Windhoek from December 14 to 22.
