TEHRAN, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami said on Thursday that Iran is building a number of research satellites to boost its aerospace program, official IRNA news agency reported.

"The Ministry of the Defense is carrying out its research activities about launching satellites and missiles based on a well-defined plan," Hatami said.

Currently, the Iranian experts are working on five research satellites which will be completed at a proper time, he added.

The Iranian minister stressed that Tehran's aerospace program is "transparent" and "completely natural."

Head of the Iranian Space Agency Morteza Barari said on Aug. 25 that Iran would launch three satellites into orbit by the end of this year.

The three satellites are Nahid 1 telecommunication satellite, Zafar and Pars 1 sensing satellites, Barari said.

"Zafar and Pars 1 satellites enjoy the resolutions of 22.5m and 15m respectively," he said, adding that "we are trying to build a sensing satellite with the resolution of 1m by 2025."

Iran's advancements in satellite technologies have been achieved despite the sanction pressures by the United States, which bars access to the related technologies in the market, said Hadi Rezaei, deputy of research and technology at the Iranian Space Research Center.
