THE HAGUE, Aug. 30(Xinhua) -- Rotterdam will host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2020, the organization behind the annual song contest announced on Friday.
After a battle of months with multiple candidates it had become a two-horse race between the MECC congress center in Maastricht in the southern part of the country and Rotterdam, the second largest city of the country. Finally Rotterdam, with the Ahoy event center, won. The semi-finals will be held next year on May 12 and 14 and the big final is scheduled for May 16.
On May 18 this year Dutchman Duncan Laurence won the Eurovision Song Contest of 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel, with his song "Arcade".
It was the first Dutch victory at the Eurovision Song Contest since Teach-In won in 1975 with "Ding-a-dong". The win meant that the Netherlands must organize the song contest in 2020
