LONDON, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- A book for kids about a character Grandude written by Paul McCartney, one of the two surviving members of the world-famous Beatles pop band, is expected to be released next week, according to local media.
The inspiration for characterizing the figure Grandude in the book stemmed from his grandchildren, one of whom called him "Grandude" one day, McCartney said in an interview with local newspaper The Times on Saturday.
"The kids started calling me that for a joke and I thought, 'Well, it is kind of funny.' It's a nice old thing, so I wrote some stories about the character Grandude," he said.
McCartney, aged 77, has just completed a tour of the North America.
The Beatles was a British rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960, comprising John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Horrison and Ring Starr. The band built its reputation through turning pop music into an art form in the 1960s before they broke up in 1970.
Lennon was shot dead in 1980 and Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001.
