THE HAGUE, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Minutes before the transfer deadline at 0.00 local time in the Netherlands Dutch soccer club SC Heerenveen announced the arrival of former FC Barcelona player Alen Halilovic on loan from AC Milan on Monday night.
In Heerenveen Halilovic hopes to lift his once promising career. The now 23-year-old Croatian midfielder played for the youth academy of Dinamo Zagreb and had a sensational breakthrough at the age of 16 in the first team. After 44 matches and seven goals, FC Barcelona picked him up in 2014.
In Spain he played for Barcelona B, but he did not manage to get to the first team and after a loan spell at Sporting Gijon, Barcelona sold him to Hamburger SV in 2016. He did not succeed in Germany and after another loan period at Las Palmas, AC Milan took him over, and loaned him to Belgium side Standard Liege in the beginning of this year.
The late transfer of Halilovic was the most surprising one of the final day of the transfer window in the Netherlands. As expected for a few days already, Feyenoord announced the arrival of Argentinian defender Marcos Senesi from San Lorenzo. The 22-year-old Argentine international signed a deal until mid-2023 in Rotterdam.
Ajax sent Argentinian defender Lisandro Magallan on loan to Spanish side Alaves, which also acquired an option to buy him. The contract of the 25-year-old defender at Ajax runs out in 2023. Magallan came over to Amsterdam from Boca Juniors in January 2019.
After a busy summer PSV kept quiet on Monday. The Eindhoven-based team already added Japanese midfielder Ritsu Doan from FC Groningen on a five-year deal on Friday.
