PARIS, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Nearly half-way into his five-year term, French President Emmanuel Macron's approval ratings increased in August, according to a Kantar-onepoint poll released on Wednesday.

The share of respondents satisfied with France's youngest president in its modern history rose to 25 percent last month, up 6 percentage points from the same period in 2018, the online survey conducted for state-run France Info radio found.

Macron's approval rating stood at 19 percent last year, hitting its lowest level since May 2017, when Macron faced his first crisis after a video surfaced of his top security aide Alexandre Benalla beating a protester.

Afer 28 months in power and a year marked by the "Yellow Vests" movement, the judgment is less severe as 25 percent of the French people consider Macron's balance sheet positive, noted Emmanuel Riviere, chief executive officer of Kantar.

The French head of state received a positive rating from 65 percent of respondents supporting the ruling Republic on the Move party, up 19 percent over last year. He has also improved his ratings among the centrist conservatives by 21 percent.

According to the survey, 51 percent of the respondents hold negative views about Macron's record, down 9 percentage points from 2018.

The Kantar survey was conducted with a sample of 1,000 people between Aug. 27 and Aug. 29.
