SHANGHAI, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 1,300 of the most visited historical buildings and city landmarks in Shanghai can now provide digital "tour guide" services for tourists, said the municipal culture and tourism bureau Wednesday.

By scanning the QR codes provided on the exteriors of these historical buildings, visitors can access the basic information of the buildings and their history and cultural significance in the form of texts, pictures, audio clips, videos or even VR overviews in Chinese and English, on their mobile devices.

In addition, a total of 1,032 historical buildings have opened to the public in six districts of downtown Shanghai so far this year, 10 times the number last year, embracing over 7.6 million visits in the first half of 2019, according to the bureau.

Yu Xiufen, head of the bureau, said the city would open 142 more historical buildings to the public and promote 237 more digital "tour guide" services at scenic spots by the end of this year.
