Ye Shiwen roars to victory in 400m IM at China national swim meet

ANSHAN, China, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Olympic champion Ye Shiwen claimed victory in her favorite 400m individual medley at the Chinese Autumn Swimming Championships here on Thursday.

The championships, which run during September 4-12, is considered a rehearsal for the Tokyo Olympic Games by taking the morning final competition format.

A total of 522 swimmers, including 278 male and 244 female from 25 teams participate in the nine-day competition while multiple world champion Sun Yang and some other big names are absent from the meet.

Ye, who won two silvers one bronze from the Gwangju FINA World Championships in late July, stormed to win in four minutes 37.40 seconds in the women's 400m IM. 16-year-old Ge Chutong from Shandong came to second 4:41.36 and 14-year-old Yu Yiting third 4:43.57.

In men's 400m IM, Zhejiang veteran Wang Shun dominated the field by winning 4:15.26, beating Huang Zhiwei of Hunan 4:21.06 and Deng Ziqi of Guangdong 4:21.12.

Ji Xinjie snatched gold in men's 400m freestyle in a time of 3:48.49, followed by Zhang Ziyang 3:51.73 and Cheng Long 3:52.07.

Host team Liaoning won the women's 4X100m freestyle relay 3:40.77.
