Int'l workshop in Oman discusses global strategy for TB elimination

MUSCAT, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- An international workshop kicked off in the Omani capital Muscat on Thursday to discuss the global strategy for eliminating tuberculosis (TB) by 2035.

Organized by the Omani Ministry of Health, the workshop was held in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.

The Omani Ministry of Health said in a statement that the workshop discussed the mechanisms for implementing the global strategy for TB elimination by 2035, and reviewed the best modern methods of TB treatment and diagnosis.

The workshop also reviewed the global strategy for the TB eradication and the action map agreed during the discussion of TB eradication at UN General Assembly meetings in 2018.

The seminar aims to exchange experience among countries that have been able to reduce the number of TB cases, and to discuss the latest and most important scientific discoveries and studies on the eradication of the disease.

A total of 23 experts and scientists in public health and infectious diseases, from Oman, the United States, South Africa, United Kingdom and other European countries as well as Gulf States, participated in the workshop.
