Japanese film "Weathering With You" set for Chinese mainland screening

BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- "Weathering With You," a Japanese animated romantic fantasy film by Makoto Shinkai, is set to hit Chinese mainland theaters on a date yet to be announced, according to the film's official Weibo account.

Set in Japan during a period of exceptionally rainy weather, it tells of a high school teenager who has run away to Tokyo and befriends an orphan girl who appears to be able to manipulate the weather.

Born in 1973, Makoto Shinkai is best known for directing Your Name, a high-grossing animated film released in 2016.

A Chinese poster has been released recently for the film, which debuted in Japan in July 2019.
