RABAT, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The death toll on Sunday's bus accident near southeastern Moroccan city of Errachidia has risen to 17, while the driver surrendered, local authorities said on Monday.

The driver, considered among the missing people, had fled the scene just after the accident occurred.

He is receiving the necessary care under the supervision of the security services, before he was subjected to a judicial inquiry, local authorities said.

The number of survivors of this accident so far stands at 30 people, but it believed that others are still missing.

Rescuers are still combing the region to find the missing people after rain storms unleashed flash floods that overturned the bus early Sunday at a bridge on a river, amid fear that the bodies were driven into Hassan Adakhil dam lake, not far from the region.

Mobilization of all means and resources continues in order to find more missing people, local authorities added.
