SHENZHEN, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- A non-profit project jointly initiated by Tencent Sports and the Yao Ming Foundation has brought students from Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province to the courts of the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Seven students from a rural primary school in Qinghai came onto court at half-time of the game between the U.S. and Brazil here on Monday, entertaining the crowd and raising awareness of social charity work.

These children live in a town located 4,000 meters above sea level, where the weather is harsh and facilities for playing basketball are poor and outdated.

This non-profit project has attracted millions of internet users, with donations being used to renovate a basketball field at a Jiuzhi County school, making it possible for people to play basketball in this region.

This project is said to further help more areas in need of better sports facilities, so as to improve the development of social charity work and get more people involved in sports.

As the official digital partner of the 2019 FIBA World Cup, Tencent Sports has sought to promote this year's tournament in different ways, with many Chinese celebrities having been invited courtside in order to raise the profile of the World Cup.
