TUNIS, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Four armed smugglers have been arrested after opening fire targeting a military patrol in Tataouine province, in southeastern Tunisia, Tunisian Ministry of the Interior said on Friday evening.
In a statement, the ministry said that army units operating in the town of Remada in Tataouine arrested the four armed smugglers who were on board two all-terrain vehicles.
"Two Kalashnikovs, a machine gun, a drone and quantities of ammunition have been seized during the operation," said the statement.
After this incident, Tunisian Interior Ministry warned citizens no to approach military zones or border buffer areas to avoid exposure to fire by military units.
The ministry's decision also aims to combat frequent attempts to infiltrate into Tunisian territories illegally and smuggle goods from neighboring countries.
