MEXICO CITY, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese manager Pedro Caixinha thanked Cruz Azul fans on Friday after ending his near-two-year spell in charge of the Mexican club.

Caixinha was sacked after a 1-1 home draw with Guadalajara in the Liga MX Apertura championship last week.

"I'm thankful, grateful and honored for having been a part of the great institution that is Cruz Azul," the former Glasgow Rangers and Santos Laguna boss said in a social media post.

"I leave with the feeling of having given my all. I hope the club can achieve its objectives for the rest of the year."

Caixinha was appointed Cruz Azul manager in December 2017 and led the team to the final of Mexico's 2018 Apertura tournament. The 48-year-old has been replaced as head coach by Uruguayan Robert Siboldi.

Cruz Azul are currently 11th in the 19-team Apertura standings with two wins, four draws and two losses.
