BANGKOK, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) on Saturday warned that parts of the country would brace for more heavy rains over the next 24 hours although five northeastern provinces still remained flooded.
The TMD said that strong waves, 2 to 3 meters high, were likely in the upper Andaman and the upper Gulf and above 3 meters high during thundershowers.
The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DPMD) said that five northeastern provinces of Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Ubon Ratchathani, Roi Et and Si Sa Ket continued to be inundated and some 28,600 residents were already evacuated from 90 flood-risk locations.
The DPMD also said that influences of the previous two tropical storms, Podul and Kajiki, in upper Thailand, and the seasonal southwest monsoon in the south, have caused flooding in 32 provinces from Aug. 29, resulting in 30 deaths with over 391,000 households affected.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Road Maintenance said that as of Saturday 8:00 am, 50 roads were affected by floods and 42 were impassable by cars.
