WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- A 5.4-magnitude earthquake jolted the area near Akutan, the southern region of the U.S. state of Alaska around GMT 1325 on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 73.06 km, was initially determined to be at 53.9819 degrees north latitude and 165.9177 degrees west longitude.
Akutan Island is located in the middle of the Aleutian Islands chain south of the Alaska mainland.
