Int'l meeting against child abuse kicks off in Oman

MUSCAT, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The International Conference on Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect kicked off in the Omani capital Muscat on Sunday under the theme "Towards a Better Future for Children" with 400 participants from 35 countries and regions.

In its sixth edition, the conference focuses social networking, the Internet and children, abuse, bullying, neglect, and the resulting serious incidents.

The conference discussed the strategies to end violence against children, stop bullying among students, and start national legislation in child protection.

Mona Fahad Al Said, chairperson of the organizing committee of the conference, stressed that the conference seeks to determine the future plan to protect children from the dangers of abuse.

Al Said said that her country sought to translate its international commitment to promoting the rights and protection of children by placing it as a top priority in policies and initiatives to achieve the goals of sustainable development in line with Oman Vision 2040.
