TEHRAN, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Canadian shipments crossing the Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf should be confiscated in response to Canada's recent move to sell Iran's properties in the country, an Iranian official was quoted as saying by Press TV on Sunday.
"An order should be issued to confiscate ships and goods that set off from the Strait of Hormuz region to the destination of Canada," said Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, a senior member of Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, on Sunday.
"This measure should be adopted as soon as possible," said Falahatpisheh.
He also said that the courts in Iran should be authorized to seize Canadian government properties in Iran.
Based on a Canadian ruling back in 2016 and later endorsement by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Canadian authorities recently seized Iranian government properties and sold them in Canada. The proceeds have been handed to "the victims of terrorist groups (allegedly) sponsored by Iran."
Iranian Foreign Ministry has said that the sale of Iran's properties in Canada by the Canadian government is "unlawful."
