ZAGREB, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Croatia should remain vigilant when it comes to a possible new immigrant wave, it was concluded at an international security conference here on Tuesday.

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said at the conference organized by daily newspaper Jutarnji List that it is uncertain whether Croatia will face another wave of migrants from the Middle East.

"It is this uncertainty that keeps us ready for another potential crisis like the one in 2015. At that time, Croatia was not ready, but today we are ready to protect our border," the president said.

She announced that in the event of a new migration wave, Croatia would act as a responsible state that respects its borders and sovereignty, and also cares for the security of the whole Europe.

Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic stressed that Croatia adopted a new security strategy two years ago, and that the European Union has shown the willingness to help keep Croatia's borders secure. The ultimate goal is Croatia's entry into the Schengen area, if the technical requirements are fulfilled.
