TASHKENT, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Commuters can enjoy free subway rides here in Central Asia's largest subway network throughout Thursday as Uzbekistan joined European Mobility Week for the first time, city authorities said.

Residents and visitors to the capital city this week can participate in a variety of campaigns to support clean mobility and sustainable urban transport promoted by the Tashkent Municipality.

The events were part of the yearly European Mobility Week, with this year themed "safe walking and cycling."

With 29 stations and 37 km in length, the Tashkent subway merely handles 200,000 passengers daily -- one of the least used underground railway networks compared with those of other capital cities, according to authorities.
