2 Vietnamese caught smuggle narcotics from Laos

HANOI, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Police of Vietnam's central Quang Binh province continued the investigation on a narcotics trafficking ring involving of at least two local residents who smuggled drugs from Laos.

The police in coordination with the provincial border guard arrested a 32-year-old man last Sunday when he was transporting 1,800 pills of amphetamine in a coach from Laos to Quang Binh, Vietnam News Agency reported on Friday.

The detainee confessed he transported the drug for a 30-year-old man named Dinh Hoai Nam who surrendered to the provincial police on Tuesday.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
