Chinese shares close higher Friday

BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.24 percent at 3,006.45 points and the Shenzhen Component Index up 0.29 percent at 9,881.25 points.

The combined trading volume of stocks in the two indexes expanded to 546.92 billion yuan (77.25 billion U.S. dollars) from 491.5 billion yuan the previous trading day.

On the Shanghai bourse, losers outnumbered gainers by 742 to 641. And on Shenzhen bourse, losers outnumbered gainers by 1,130 to 924.

Companies in the high-speed rail and automobile infrastructure sectors saw robust growth in share prices, while shares in the pork and tourism sectors led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.03 percent to close at 1,705.05 points.
