CHENGDU, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Western China International Expo City has been granted as a member of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) earlier this week, local authorities said Friday.

The expo city, located in Tianfu New Area, a state-level new economic zone spanning southeast of Chengdu and northern Meishan in southwest China's Sichuan Province, is the permanent site of the Western China International Fair.

With a gross floor area of 57 hectares, it has hosted 168 exhibitions and activities since it opened in 2017, including the China Food and Drink Fair and the Chengdu Motor Show.

The UFI admission proved a peer recognition of the expo city meeting international and professional standards, according to Sichuan Tianfu International Conference & Exhibition Co., Ltd., the operator.

This will further promote international cooperation in the area and help Chengdu pick up its pace to become a global expo hub, the company said.

Founded in 1925, the Paris-headquartered UFI is the world's leading association of trade show organizers and exhibition center operators, with nearly 800 members from 88 countries and regions.
