AMMAN, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Jordan will host a forum to boost medical tourism sector, which contributes more than 1 billion U.S. dollars annually to the economy.

The Global Healthcare Travel Forum (GHTF) 2019, held under the patronage of King Abdullah II of Jordan, is scheduled from Oct. 26 to 28, said a statement from the forum.

Organized by the Private Hospitals Association (PHA), in cooperation with the Global Healthcare Travel Council and the Arab Hospitals Federation, the forum aims at providing medical tourism stakeholders around the world with the opportunity to meet, integrate and strengthen cooperation in the field.

More than 700 participants representing commissions specialized in healthcare travel and insurance, along with pharmaceutical manufacturers, will take part in the forum, President of the PHA Fawzi Hammouri said in a statement.

The forum will open up an opportunity to further develop the outcomes of GHTF 2017 aimed at expanding the scope of the medical tourism sector in Jordan to eight internationally recognized segments, he added.

Known as Health Travel 8, the segments include traditional medical tourism, dental tourism, wellness tourism, spa tourism, culinary tourism, sports tourism, retirement tourism and accessible tourism.
