THE HAGUE, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- PSV and Ajax drew 1-1 in Eindhoven on Sunday in the first encounter between the two Dutch title race rivals in the Eredivisie.
The best chances were for Ajax in the first half, with Quincy Promes missing the best opportunity on a cross by Dusan Tadic. His attempt went wide.
In the second half, Promes made up for his miss by placing the ball through the legs of PSV defender Denzel Dumfries in the corner of the goal. With this goal, Ajax seemed to be on its way to victory, but PSV striker Donyell Malen converted the first chance of the match for PSV in the 77th minute to level the score 1-1.
With the draw, both Ajax and PSV came to 14 points from six matches on top of the table. Vitesse, which beat Fortuna Sittard 4-2 in Arnhem on Saturday, are on 14 points from seven matches.
