DHAKA, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Bangladesh police raided a militant hideout on the outskirts of capital Dhaka early on Monday.

At least three suspected extremists, who are members of neo-JMB, a banned militant outfit, were detained in this connection.

Monirul Islam, chief of the unit, told journalists that security forces surrounded a building in Narayanganj on the outskirts of Dhaka, suspecting it a militant hideout early on Monday.

He said militants who were detained have links with recent attacks in the country.

He said the den was used as "bomb-making labs" of Neo-JMB which targeted the police force in recent months because of the arrests and killings of other militants.

Islam said a bomb disposal unit reached the spot and started working to locate the bombs inside the houses and diffuse them.

In the wake of the deadly cafe attack on July 1, 2016, Bangladesh has conducted a series of large-scale operations against militants.

Neo-JMB, an offshoot of the banned militant outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh, has been blamed for an attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery, in which 20 hostages, mostly foreigners, were killed.
