Commonwealth countries to hold meeting in Rwanda in 2020

KIGALI, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland have jointly announced that the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting will be held in Rwandan capital city Kigali during the week starting June 22, 2020, said a statement released here on Tuesday.

Leaders from all 53 Commonwealth countries are expected to attend the meeting with the theme of "Delivering A Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming," said the joint statement of the Commonwealth and the government of Rwanda.

Participants will discuss five sub-themes including governance and rule of law; ICT and innovation; Youth; energy and environment; and Trade, it said.

A meeting of foreign ministers and forums to engage young people, civil society, women and the business community will also be held during the week, according to the statement.

The last Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting was held in London in 2018.

The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of nations. It is home to 2.4 billion people and includes both advanced and developing economies.
