MAPUTO, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi said on Wednesday that Mozambicans have to do everything they can to stop the armed attacks in the northernmost province Cabo Delgado, where civilians of several districts have been victims since October 2017.

Nyusi spoke in Maputo at the ceremony of the 55th anniversary of the beginning of the national liberation fight and the day of the Armed Defense Forces of Mozambique.

"We are determined to do everything we can to find quick and efficient solutions to dismantle these outbreaks and other threats in order to restore the peace and tranquility to Mozambican victims of these macabre acts," said the president.

On Monday, at least 10 people were killed and many others injured in a new attack in the administrative post of Mbau and the local Frelimo party offices were burnt down, in Mocimboa da Praia district in Cabo Delgado, according to media reports.

"It is more than clear that we are being victimized by a camouflaged invasion, an attack on our development," said Nyusi.

The president said that faceless criminals incite disobedience to government officials and promote disrespect for national symbols of sovereignty.

He urged everyone to actively participate in the defense of the homeland, sovereignty and territorial integrity through surveillance in all areas.

Speaking on violence, Nyusi added that he had a brief meeting with his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa, where the latter expressed deep displeasure and apologized for the xenophobic violence affecting Mozambican people.

He said all Mozambicans should remain calm and refraining from retaliation.

After the wreath-laying ceremony and speech at Heroes' Square, Nyusi went to the nearby Combatants' Square, in the outskirts of Maputo city, where he inaugurated the monument of combatants in honor of the national freedom fighters.

Nyusi said the monument is a way of making the deeds of those who fought to liberate their homeland eternal.
