German shares open flat at start of trading

BERLIN, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- German stocks were virtually unchanged at the start of trading on Thursday with the benchmark index DAX opening at 12,227.77 points, declining by 6.41 points, or 0.05 percent.

The biggest winner among Germany's largest 30 companies at the start of trading was housing company Vonovia, increasing 0.19 percent, followed by dialysis specialist Fresenius Medical Care and jet engine manufacturer MTU, both up 0.06 percent.

Shares of Henkel fell by 1.28 percent. The German consumer products company was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Thursday.

The euro increased slightly by 0.09 percent on Thursday, trading at 1.0954 U.S. dollars.

President of the European Central Bank (ECB) Mario Draghi is scheduled to open the annual conference of the European Systemic Risk Board in the German city of Frankfurt on Thursday.

Topics of the two-day conference are set to be, among other things, the future of financial services and the main features of stress testing for banks.

Germany's largest market research institute GfK published its monthly consumer climate index on Thursday. The market researchers found that the consumption propensity among Germans had "benefited" from the decision of the ECB to further relax its monetary policy in September. Enditem
