MADRID, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Former FC Barcelona legend Carles Puyol has rejected the opportunity to return to the club in an administrative role.
The 41-year-old, who retired from playing in 2014, had been offered the role of Director of Sport by Barca president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, but has published a communique explaining that for the moment, he is unable to accept the offer.
"In recent weeks there have been several stories published about my possible incorporation at FC Barcelona as Director of Spain. It is because of this that I feel obliged to communicate to the Barca family that, after spending a long time thinking about it, I have decided not to accept the club's offer," wrote the former captain.
"It was not an easy decision, as I have always said I would like to return to what I consider to be my home, but diverse personal projects in which I am currently immersed stop me from giving the exclusive dedication that the job deserves," continued Puyol who thanked the club for having offered him a "position of so much responsibility."
