WINDHOEK, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Namibia will work closely with other Southern African countries as well as international partners to avert the effects of climate change, a senior official said on Thursday.

Namibia's Minister of Agriculture and Water and Forestry Alfeuas !Naruseb said his country is committed to fighting the effects of climate change on its agriculture industry as well as food production.

He was addressing delegates from Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Angola, Zambia as well as Germany who signed a treaty to combat climate change through Southern African Science Service for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management.

"Our countries in the SADC region are experiencing challenging effects of climate change as witnessed by the drought that we are currently experiencing. These challenges need parties to work closely and find solutions to the changes of climate change." he said.

He added that unfamiliar weather patterns are now hampering SADC counties because of climate change.
