VIENNA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tens of thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets of Austrian cities on Friday to support the global "Earth Strike" movement that calls for action against climate change.

Local media reported that 30,000 people participated in Vienna alone, while Innsbruck attracted up to 18,000 people. Protests were also held in cities of Graz, Linz, and Bregenz.

The participants in Vienna started at three separate places and convened at the Karlsplatz square in the city centre.

The demonstrators, mostly young people, held up numerous signs in reference to climate change.

A similar climate change strike was held in March in the country that saw 20,000 people take part in demonstrations.
