BUDAPEST, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Hungarians Peter Jenkei and Fanni Anna Gyurko won the men's and women's races respectively of the 34th Budapest Marathon here on Sunday.

More than 30,000 athletes from 80 countries and regions competed in the event, under blue skies and over 20 degrees celsius.

Jenkei timed two hours 23 minutes and 21 seconds to win the race, followed by compatriots Gaspas Csere on second in 2:26:20, and Mark Feher in 2:38:46.

In the women's race, Gyurko won with a time of 2:42:54 and fellow Hungarian Tunde Szabo finished second in 2:47:32. The bronze medal went to Georgina Fenn of Britain, with 2:56:49.

"The city is wonderful, I have been to many places but this beats almost everything, and to run in such a place is a delight," 41-year-old insurance expert from France, Ladislas, told Xinhua. He finished in 4:43:00, a personal best.

The tracks run across the famous bridges of Budapest, and through World Heritage Sites such as the pompous Andrassy Avenue. Athletes also have the pleasure of running by the massive new-gothic Parliament building, or the Opera house.
