TOKYO, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday, following U.S. shares decreasing late last week.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average decreased 94.47 points, or 0.43 percent, from Friday to 21,784.43.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 9.85 points, or 0.61 percent, to reach 1,594.40.
Electric power and gas, mining, and oil and coal product issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
