RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Record-breaking former goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni has been re-appointed head coach of Fortaleza, less than two months after leaving the club to join Brazilian Serie A rivals Cruzeiro.

Ceni agreed to a contract that runs until December 15, Fortaleza said in a statement on their official website on Sunday.

The announcement came three days after Ceni was sacked by Cruzeiro, whom he led to just two wins after arriving from Fortaleza on August 11.

Fortaleza parted ways with manager Ze Ricardo on Friday following a 4-1 loss at Athletico Paranaense.

Ceni ended his playing career in 2015 after 1,250 matches for Sao Paulo in a career spanning 24 seasons. He was capped 16 times for Brazil's national team and was a part of the Selecao squad that won the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

A specialist free-kick and penalty taker, he is recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the highest-scoring keeper of all time with 131 goals.

The 46-year-old is regarded as one of Brazil's most promising coaches, having guided Fortaleza to the Serie B title last year, earning them promotion to the top flight. Fortaleza are currently 15th in the 20-team Serie A standings.
