MOSCOW, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Russia has extinguished all wildfires in the country, which hit a total area of 10.337 million hectares, the Russian Aerial Forest Protection Service said Monday.

It said in a statement that in the last 24 hours seven remaining wildfires were extinguished over an area spanning 94 hectares.

In August, Mikhail Klinov, acting head of the Russian Federal Forestry Agency, estimated the damage from forest fires in Russia since the start of this year at 7 billion rubles (105 million U.S. dollars).

By then, forest fires had hit 8.976 million hectares of land in Russia, compared with 8.371 million hectares last year and a 10-year average of 8.744 million hectares, Klinov said, adding that there were years when the forest fire areas were significantly larger.
