ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The African Union (AU), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is set to hold a high-level conference on winning the fight against corruption in the land sector towards Africa's transformation next month, the UN-ECA revealed on Tuesday.

The Conference on Land Policy in Africa (CLPA-2019), which runs from November 25 to 29 under the theme -- "Winning the Fight Against Corruption in the Land Sector: Sustainable Pathway for Africa's Transformation," is organized by the African Land Policy Centre (ALPC), which is a joint initiative of the AU Commission, the UN-ECA, and AfDB.

The high-level continental conference is said to serve as "a policy and learning event whose goal is to deepen capacity for land policy in Africa through improved access to knowledge and information on land policy development and implementation," the ECA said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

In May this year, experts drawn from the five African regions had developed continental guidelines on Land, Ethnicity and Conflict in Africa, which mainly aimed to "prevent and address land, ethnicity and conflict in Africa."

According to the ECA, the guidelines are expected to support the implementation of inclusive land policies and land governance practices as key factors in conflict prevention, peace-building and sustainable development.

The guidelines, which will be used by governments, land policy reform institutions, peace builders, researchers, and ordinary citizens, "will offer insights into land policy reforms by addressing, ethnic dimensions to land, the different types of conflicts, how to mitigate them and the best ways of securing land rights in order to build peaceful and cohesive communities," according to the ECA.

The African Land Policy Center was established in 2006 as a secretariat of the tripartite consortium composed of the three pan African organizations, with the mandate of facilitating the implementation of the AU Declaration on Land in Africa, which was endorsed by African leaders back in 2009.

The continental declaration, among other things, resolved to strengthen the security of land tenure and ensure that land laws provide for equitable access to land and related resources.
