ALGIERS, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The 3rd General Assembly of the African Union Mechanism for Police Organization (AFRIPOL) wrapped up on Thursday in Algiers, where member states agreed to set the war on terror and organized crime as key objectives of the organization.

"Participants tabled recommendations that reflect the aspirations of Africa in a bid to spread peace and security in the continent," African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security, Smail Chergui, told a press conference.

He said AFRIPOL leaders have adopted a five-year strategic plan to combat and prevent organized crime, terrorism and cybercrime.

AFRIPOL Chief Khelifa Ounissi said Algeria has been endorsed to lead AFRIPOL for a two-year term.

AFRIPOL, based in Algiers since May 2017 and includes 41 African nations, is a technical body of the AU which aims at adopting comprehensive vision to improve the effectiveness of African police agencies.
