CANBERRA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- A vast majority of graduates from Australian universities find full-time work within three years after finishing their degree, a survey said.
The latest Graduate Outcome Survey, released by the government's Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) recently, showed the proportion of undergraduates in employment in 2016, four months after completing their course, stood at 87.4 percent, while three years later, 93.3 percent of the same cohort of graduates had secured employment.
The unemployment rate for Australians with degrees is 3.3 percent compared to the national average of 5.3 percent.
Dentistry produces the most employable graduates, with 99 percent of graduates in full-time employment three years after completing their studies, followed by medicine (98 percent), rehabilitation (98 percent), veterinary science (96 percent), engineering (95 percent) and law (95 percent).
Dan Tehan, Australian minister for education, said that university graduates have been the beneficiaries of the 250,000 jobs created in 2018.
"Universities are a key driver of job creation, job growth, and productivity improvements in this nation," he said in a media release on Sunday.
"Our government wants Australians to earn more from what they're doing. Australia's future economic success will rely on educated workers able to access innovation and research to drive growth and opportunity."
"Our Government has put graduate employment outcomes at the centre of our performance-based funding model for universities. This means universities will be incentivized to continue to produce job-ready graduates," the minister added.
